The York Pioneer
The York Pioneer is the direct descendant of The Annual Report of the York Pioneer and Historical Society, first published in 1904. The early volumes carried only committee reports and lists of recently deceased members. By the 1950s, the content had become mainly articles written for publication; in 1955, the current name was adopted to reflect the change in focus.

From Hands Now Striving to Be Free
An exciting new publication is our contribution to the celebration of the 175th anniversary of the Incorporation of The City of Toronto. From Hands Now Striving to be Free is an inventory and analysis of 94 boxes crafted by men jailed in the aftermath of the failed 1837 Rebellion of Upper Canada (cover at right). The book was written by Chris Raible, with John C. Carter and Darryl Withrow, and is liberally illustrated with photographs of the boxes. Publishing a book so relevant to Toronto’s history fits perfectly with our motto, “Preserving the Past for the Future”, and complements the 10th anniversary theme of Doors Open Toronto, “Lit City – Toronto Stories and Settings”, a celebration of our built heritage and print culture. Each book is $15.00 CAD + $3.00 Shipping & Handling |
